Sunday Snapshots

It snowed most of the day Sunday, which I completely enjoyed, but I do wish we lived just a few more miles up the road. My friends just north of us in Willow got over a foot of snow! I only got about 5" at my place so when I saw them posting on Facebook about their snow totals I was a bit green with jealousy, I wont lie. It started snowing again this afternoon but its a very fine snow and I doubt we'll see much accumulation from it. We're supposed to get more snow at the end of the week, which will be perfect as the Iditarod starts on Sunday. This is the most snow we've had for the Iditarod in quite a few years. We always go out onto a local lake with friends to watch the race so as long as its not windy its all good. One year we went and the wind really froze our faces.....I dont mind the cold but that was just a bit much.

Bobby the Bull Moose hung around through Sunday afternoon and then he wandered over to the neighbors house and laid in their side yard for the rest of the day. I learned yesterday that at this time of year moose spend hours each day in a state of torpor during which time their metabolism drops, lessening their energy/food needs. I guess thats why Bobby spends so much time resting, and maybe I shouldnt be as worried about it as I have been. Thanks to the Facebook page of Denali National Park for that bit of info!

After the snow tapered off Sunday afternoon we headed into Wasilla to drop our daughter off at her boyfriends soccer game and then we went by the grocery store. Once again we saw some accidents and things that just make you wonder how some people ever managed to get a drivers license!

My daughter and our kitty Calliope:
Bobby the Bull Moose decides its time to stand up:

 He was eating the snow:
And he heads off to the neighbors yard:
 Checking out their shed:
Decides to keep coming. He ended up turning the corner at the end of the shed and going right into their backyard:
Headed down the Parks Hwy towards Wasilla. Chugach Mtns in the distance:

About 6 miles down the road we came across this wreck:
 We make it into Wasilla:
The Alaska State Troopers have a post right by the grocery store we go too. If you ever watch their TV show on Nat Geo and hear them mention the post on Pittman....well this is it:
On the way home we come across that wreck again, only this time the truck has been picked up by the tow truck(look to the left of the speed sign):

And then less than half a mile down the road another accident:
 Ahhhh, almost home:
